Rumah Keluarga Kami (RKK) was established on 1st
June 1990 and is a residential home for underprivileged, abused and
abandoned children. A project by the society of St Vincent de Paul,
Conference of the Holy Family, Kajang, the need of such a home was mooted from
the growing need to provide underprivileged children with the essential needs
like foods, shelter, education, and, most of all, love.
The home started its humble beginning from rented
premises in Kajang. Thereafter, in 1991, we moved to our own home comprising a
single storey bungalow which was part financed by a bank loan. Situated at
No.139, Jalan Bukit
Kajang, the home has 7 rooms and
currently houses the girls. In late 1996, we rented a nearby single storey
terrace house to be used as the boys¡¯ wing in view of the increasing number of
children seeking admission.
¡¡
In the mid 2007, we purchased a piece of vacant land adjacent to our present house with the objective of constructing our own home for the boys. Fund raising for this project has already started since late 2008.
¡¡
Since its inception, a total of not less than 140 children have resided in the home and today (June 2008), we have 45 children, all whom attend school (from nursery to secondary). We are also proud that 3 of our children are currently in college. One girl is currently pursuing a course in hotel management and the other two are with the Montfort Boys & Girls Town pursuing studies in Graphics Design. One of our girls obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree (majoring in Information Systems) from university of Portsmouth on 25th of November 2007. We are also proud that 15 of our children have since graduated from Montfort. They are now gainfully employed and successful in their respective careers.

A full time Home Administrator, an Assistant Administrator with the help of 3 House-mothers administer the day-to-day operation of the home. Financial and overall management of the home is undertaken by a team of 18 committee members, all of whom are volunteers. The monthly expenses for the home amounts to about MYR 18,000.00, the funding of which is almost entirely by public donations and fund raising projects, which include an Annual Dinner and Dance, and an Annual Charity Golf Tournament.
¡¡
In early April 2008, we embarked on a second project, the ¡°Second Chance Community Home¡±. The home is located at rented premises at No. 12, Jalan Pisang, Off Jalan Klang Lama, 58200, Kuala Lumpur. The objective of this home is to provide a half way home for ex prisoners and men associated with drugs and alcohol abuse. The home will house these less fortunate individuals for about 3 to 6 months with the view to integrate them back into society. The average monthly expenditure for this project is about MYR 6,000.00.
¡¡
Following the recent fuel price hike, donations from our regular generous donors both in cash and kind have dropped noticeably. This is compounded further by the increasing costs of food, utilities, school and other expenses. Whilst we appreciate the effects the sudden rise in the cost of living have on our regular generous donors, we still have to continue for the sake of the children taken into our care for they have only RKK to depend upon. We have since taken some cost cutting measures, but we still find our coffer depleting.
